Writing Update

It's been awhile since I did one of these, for good (well, okay, bad) reason:

There's not been much to say.

I really have not had time (or energy) to do any sort of creative writing in months. I get paid to do freelance writing on various topics, with various degrees of personal input, usually very little, but when it comes to creative personal writing everything seems to be on hold.
There's the fanfiction I started in April. I recently received a message asking me to please finish the story so they could know how it ends. Mmm, okay, will try!

There's the novel that I haven't touched in...far too long.

There's the Bones script I finished. And the one I didn't.

There's the pregnancy journal. Now that, I am current on. Well, sorta. Early on I managed daily writing, now I'm on weekly updates.
I hope I have some great things to post soon about writing. We recently purchased a laptop, which has allowed me to quickly start catching up on my paid, non-creative, freelance writing. I'm praying I can get a bit ahead of that (when I don't feel baby-sick) and then be able to dig back in to the rewarding creative work. I miss it, especially the script writing. But, alas, that may be shelved indefinitely. I think my path lays far more realistically with the novel side of things, with two babies on the way.

Writing Update

Not much to update, serious slacking here this week. I did push out a new fluffy/funny chapter in my fanfiction. Slowly but surely I'm finishing it. I'm not sure whether or not I'll ever do another one after I finish this. There are great and terrible aspects to it. I love the instant audience. But on the flip side of that, an instant audience wants instant meat. You can't really take the time to set up events.

For the stuff that involves my writing future...I've slacked for a few days. I did brainstorm with 3 people more depth to the Pilot, so I've not been a complete bum. But I haven't worked on the newest deadline at all: the Bones spec script. Time to get busy!

Writing update

I'm only a few pages away from finishing the script. I have the remaining plot completely outlined it's just a matter of forming the dialog. Then a last check on formatting, maybe tweak a few details, and hand it off to the friends nice enough to savage it. It needs it, I'm sure. And better they savage it now and help me improve it. I dare not dwell more than a moment on what could happen if I win this contest. Better that I put my energy into doing the best job I can and then leave it be. Other than that and prayer there isn't much I can do!

I did put up a new fanfiction chapter today. Took me a week and a half to get those 1200 words up though for a week I've had most of it written. I often get stuck on where to start. On that chapter I had the start outlined in description but not truly formed. This morning the start came to mind and from there the rest quickly flowed. I've put over 25k words up over there. That's about 40 pages of a novel!

Distractions

I'm having far too much fun on my Bones blog. I did manage to write a new chapter to my fanfic last night and the next is half written. Eventually I'll finish that thing and be able to have one less thing distracting me from my book!

Fanfiction

I have to admit another secret. I have dabbled in fan fiction. More accurately, I am currently doing so. When I decided to return to writing I started working on my plot right away but that is a long way from the point of actually writing anything. It occurred to me that anywhere I could get practice would help me and also that the writers of Bones sure aren't going to give us the whole 9 yards of the Booth/Bones romance anytime soon. A story was born. It's fluffy and romantic and the writing is raw. But 20k+ words into it, and still not done, I feel that I am growing and learning a lot.

I thought that it would be easier than it has proven to be. On the one hand, I didn't have to create the characters or imagine any back story. Hart Hanson and his team have done both brilliantly. But on the other I had to attempt to remain true to characters I didn't create while putting them in situations that the actual writers have yet to do. I've simultaneously learned a lot about my writing and my readers.

I'm not going to link it here as I never want it to be in any way construed that I was attempting to make any gains, monetary or other, off characters I didn't create. I will admit to gains in the area of personal growth but I don't think there's a legal recourse to be had in that area. While an industrious person might be able to hunt down my story I won't render any aid.

I have at least another 10k words to write to finish my story and then I'll post more reflections here after it is done.

# Pieces Written

Scripts - 3

4 if you count re-writing Sleeping Beauty, Hillbilly-style, in High School

Novels- 1 + .1 + .7

Can I count my 14 or so mentally composted story ideas? No? Drat.

Short Stories - 2

I'll say two officially, so far (one of those still needs to be typed up)... I lost at least 2 of my old ones and I've wiped the slate clean.

Poems- 3...4? 42?

I won awards for 3. After that I lost count.
